The home office for CarMax, the company that revolutionized the used car buying experience, appears like a modernist glass box slipped into the forest. Careful siting and a narrow footprint maximize views and access to daylight while energy-efficient systems and “smart” controls reduce energy consumption. Designed from the “inside out,” the LEED Silver-certified workplace celebrates the beauty of its natural surroundings and provides a highly tuned environment for the company workforce. The campus plan minimizes site impact through the use of a four-story parking garage. Inside, strategically placed interactive zones support a culture of collaboration and build a spirit of collegiality.
